북한의 소학교용 『공산주의 도덕』 교과서에 나타난 도덕규범의 분석: 통일교육에 주는 시사점을 중심으로 = North Korean Ethical Standards in Elementary School Textbook, Communist Ethics: Focus on the Implications for Unification Education

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study presents the implications of unification education based on an analysis of North Korean ethical standards that focus on the elementary school textbook, Communist Ethics. This study empirically organizes the substance of North Korean ethical standards and expands the content of unification education in accordance with the example cases presented in, Communist Ethics. Communist Ethics has seven categories for North Korean ethical standards: 1) loyalty to Suryung (their Dear Leader), the party, and the people, 2) revolutionary comradery and fraternity in social life, 3) citizens` ethics for community life, 4) the supremacy of socialism, 5) patriotism, 6) anti-imperialism, anti-American, anti-Japanese, and anti-South Korean sentiment, and 7) personal ethical standards. These criteria reveal the North Korean features of dogmatism, collectivism, and the indoctrination of its political ideology that serve as a means of ethical standards to sustain the Suryung-centered regime. The implications of this for unification education are: First, North Korean ethical standards are neither ethical nor valuable in terms of ethics education such as in human rights and social justice. Second, the textbook mainly serves as a means to faithfully indoctrinate North Korean ideology. Discussion on the integration and convergence of South-North Korean textbooks for ethics education is of limited value. Third, it is necessary to provide the North with practical policy approaches that acknowledge the changes in the global community and the situation of South Korea with consideration of the reality of North Korean ethical standards based on a Cold War ideology. Fourth, the focus of unification education should be on universal values since the national homogeneity of traditional values acknowledged by North Korean moral standards is confined to only North Korea.
