This study aims to examine the intrinsic f0 characteristics of Korean monophthongs and to explore multiple factors that influence their realization. To achieve this, the study measured f0 values under various phonological conditions, using the place of articulation of preceding consonants, the frontness or backness of vowels, and tongue height as major variables. The analysis revealed that high vowels consistently showed higher f0 values than low vowels, confirming the presence of intrinsic f0 characteristics in Korean. While the place of articulation of preceding consonants and vowel frontness or backness did not significantly affect f0 realization, tongue height and f0 exhibited a continuous correlation across all conditions. As tongue height increased—reflected by lower F1 values—f0 also rose, demonstrating that intrinsic f0 directly reflects articulatory height and functions as a key acoustic property of Korean vowels.
