아름다운 이야기할머니 융복합극의 가치와 방향 = The Value and Direction of the Beautiful Story Grandmother Convergence Drama

This study identified the purpose of the ‘National Tour of Beautiful Story Grandmother Convergence Drama’ organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Studies Institute, and explored its meaning. The Korean Studies Institute planned a Grandmother Story Convergence Drama to expand the value of traditional tales and the cultural capabilities of the elderly generation into performing arts, proven through the Beautiful Story Grandmother project. Ten plays were performed from 2023 to 2025. These works, adapted from traditional tales popular with young children in the Beautiful Story Grandmother Project, focus on the virtues of ‘consideration and respect’. Furthermore, while the 2023 and 2025 performances emphasized music through live musical theater, musicals, and traditional Korean Madang Theater, the 2024 performance prioritized visual media such as media art, shadow theater, and puppet theater. In particular, communication with early childhood audiences was emphasized through speakers who maximized the strengths of the story grandmother actors. The Grandmother Story Convergence Drama has an important meaning in that it discovers the possibility of grandmothers working as performing arts producers, provides young audiences with the opportunity to experience old stories as performing arts, and shows the development of children’s plays that dramatize old stories using the story grandmothers.
