The Nambyeon (南邊) basically has geographical meaning. Analyzing terms similar to the Nambeon, we can divide them into three main categories.
First, as a regional category, we can trace the local-based chief group and Baekje-refugee group. Second, as a category of thought, it can be noted that the Namdan (南壇), Namgue (南郊), and Namdae (南臺) based on the symbolism of the southern part. This makes it possible to note the red color group and the Yebu (禮部).
Third, as an institutional category (conventional concept), it can be noted the Namsang (南床) and Namban (南班) based on the promotion system of five stages of Silla. This allows us to pay attention to the 4th group of the Namsang (南床), the Sain (舍人) group, and the jangchuk (匠尺) group.
If the Nambeon (南邊) was referring to the village chief group, it would have been one of the 10th 10th-ranked Tanama (大奈麻)-12th daesa (大舍). The unsettled hypothesis of Baekje-refugee is thought to be excessive reasoning, and it may be excluded.
If the Nambyeon (南邊) are the sain (舍人) group, it is 12th daesa (大舍) to 13th saji (舍知), and if it is the red color group is 6th achan (阿飡) to 9th gubboelchan (級伐飡), and and if it is the fourth position, it is 12th to 13th. The jangchuk (匠尺) group is also ranked 6th sanggan (上干; 京位 대사) ~ 11th achek (阿尺 ; 경위 造位).
Taken together, the highest grades of each class can be narrowed down to Achan, Daenama, and Daesa. However, there seems to have been a clear boundary between the Daenama and Nama, the Daesa and Saji.
The Daenama and Nama were a grade that divided 4th or 5th dupum (頭品), and 4th dupum were not owned. It was also a grade that students of national school (國學) could receive after completing 9 years of study. It was not that easy to get, so it can not be regarded as the best of the Nambeonjeil. Therefore, Achan can be excluded, and what remains is the Daesa.
The Nambeon The south side is thought to be an expression due to seating arrangements within each government office. Although the Nambeonjeil is directly related to the 4th dupum (頭品), the etymology seems to have been based on the Namsang (南床) and Naman (南班).
