상호성을 넘어서: 폴 리쾨르에게서 주어짐과 선물 = Reciprocity and Superabundance: Givenness and Gift in Paul Ricoeur

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In this article, I shed light on the understanding of Paul Ricoeur’s givenness and gift. For him, givenness is considered as a gift that gives rise to our thought and enables more reflections. In particular, the gift as a concretion and model on the given or the givenness is accompanied by a law of overflow that threatens and violates the principle of equivalence close to the order for the market based on reciprocity. In order to make this point clear, above all, I will look at the main texts of Ricoeur’s givenness and gift, and then the elucidation will offer an inclusive understanding of them. Next, I bring Marion’s gift theory to highlight the unique character of Ricoeur’s theory of gift. Finally, I will emphasize that Ricoeur unfolds the law of superabundance and the mutuality that is not subjected to economic order for exchange. And to conclude, the law of superabundance as the working principle of the economy of the gift proposed by Ricoeur reveals transcendence or excess which can appear in everyday-ness of our life beyond a series of systems for economic exchanges.
