The purpose of this study is to analyze the differences between No-changing Pattern 1 and Ascending Pattern 1, which are two represntative housing life cycle patterns of urban families by longitudinal approach. The sample population was selected from housewives, whose age were between 50 and 59, belonging to the two patterns.
The results are as follows. Comparing Ascending Pattern 1 with No-changing Pattern 1, husband's education level and monthly income of Ascending Pattern 1 is higher than those of No-changing Pattern 1. Average marriage age(25.0) of housewives belonging to Ascending Pattern 1 is older than that(22.7) of No-changing Pattern 1. The ratio of nuclear family of Ascending Pattern 1 is lower than that of No-changing Pattern 1.
There are distinct differences between the two patterns in changing style of housing characteristics such as housing tenureship, housing quality, direction of move, etc. In general, the housing conditions in the first house after marriage of Ascending Pattern 1 were much worse than those of No-changing Pattern 1, but after first move or second move the housing conditions of Ascending Pattern 1 became better and better than that of No-changing Pattern 1. Shortly, the developing speed in housing conditions of Ascending Pattern 1 always surpassed that of No-changing Pattern 1. Between the two housing life cycle patterns, changing style of satisfaction level with housing conditions is much similar to the style of housing conditions.
