분류와 창발에 대한 잡(雜)의 사회학적 상상

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 분류와 창발의 문제에 대하여 보다 거시 역사적인 관점에서 조망하면서 몇 가지 쟁점을 제기하고자 한다. 먼저 두뇌 뉴론, 개미 콜로니, 근대 시장 등은 모두 복잡성의 발현이라는 동일한 알고리듬으로 파악할 수 있다는 기본적인 설명을 상정하고, 이에 대하여 ‘밖으로부터의 사유’라는 관점에서 다시 생각해본다. 세 가지 논점이 제기된다. 첫째, 인간의 고등 지능과 자의식의 발생이 동시적인 현상이라는 점을 들어 근대에서의 ‘정보·지식 빅뱅’과 이에 상응하는 사회 단위의 자의식의 발생이 일어났다는 점을 지적한다. 근대 시기의 각종 사회 이론의 출현을 사회의 자의식 및 자기 지시적 준거라는 관점에서 해석한다. 둘째, 정보 빅뱅과 근대 시장의 도래를 위해서는 인류가 오랫동안 유지해왔던 근본적인 범주 구분의 와해와 재배열이 전제되었다는 점을 지적한다. ‘상이한 교환영역’과 ‘성속’ 범주 등에 대한 간략한 설명이 제시된다. 셋째, 인식 및 마음의 작동에 대해 대응하는 물리적 기반이 없다는 물리학자 슈뢰딩거의 문제 제기를 확장하여, 복잡계 연구의 기계론적 알고리듬만으로는 끊임없이 자의적인 방식으로 가치가 재생성되는 진화적 역사의 과정에 대해 완결적인 설명체계는 성립하기 어렵다는 점을 주장한다. 깊은 의미에서의 사회적 동물이 함의하는 바대로, 인간의 마음은 어떤 물리적 기반을 따로 갖는 것이 아니라, 집합적 단위에서 실천적으로 만들어지는 현재진행형(on-going) 상태의 발현물이라는 점을 지적한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In this study we discuss about the problem of classification and emergence from a longer evolutionary perspective, and raise some related questions. We take it as a starting point that human brain, ant colony, and modern market all share the similar traits of emergent complexity and could be effectively explained with the framework of complexity algorithm. Keeping the possibility of ‘thinking from outside’ in mind, we elaborate three arguments. First, as we take it that the emergence of human higher intelligence coincides with that of self-consciousness, we indicate the point that the occurrence of the information-knowledge ‘big bang’ in modern era was accompanied with the emergence of keen self-consciousness at the society level. Various kinds of ‘social theories’ in a modern period are reinterpreted in terms of social self-consciousness and self-referential system. Second, we explain that such an information big bang and the advent of modern market required as its premise that the collapse and reallocation of some fundamental classificatory schemes of society which had been kept until modern times. ‘Distinct spheres of exchange’ and ‘the contrast between the sacred and the profane’ are briefly explained as illustrations of those problematized classficatory schemes. Third, extending from the Schrödinger’s paradox that perception or ‘mind’ itself cannot be contained within the various theoretical models it creates for the description of outside world, we argue that construction of complete and general model system for explaining sufficiently about complexity evolving process would not be possible because those evolutionary-historical process is inherently involved with incessant value-creations in an arbitrary and unpredictable way, i.e., endless ‘reinventing of the sacredness’, which could not be captured with the mechanical algorithms only. Reminding the notion of ‘social animal’ in a deep sense, we finally suggest the point that human ‘mind’ is not something which has any corresponding material substrates, but rather something which is always at the state of ‘on-going’, realizable only as the result of on-going practices at the collective level.
