The purpose of this study was to analyze the Korean corporate health/fintness prograams and to make suggestions in improving the qualitative and quantitative aspects of existing programs. The dats was collected from 10 corporations located in Seoul. Interviews with each individual who manage the program in each corporation was conducted by the investigator.
The results of the study can be summarized as follows :
1.Corporate health/fitness programs in Koirea in not structured, nor functioned as it was planned for. Part of the problem is due to the lalck of available information to the owners about the benfits of instituting the advanced health/fitness program within the corporation. Existing programs should be altered dramatically to be effective and beneficial.
2.To stimulate the proliferation of effective corporate health/fitness programs among corporations, government may recommend several private and state-owned corporations to initiate advanced programs.
3.Existing biennial medical check-up is not effective in promoting health and fitness. Test merely seperates individuals who are out of normal range and test results are hardly utilized for the improvements of individuals fitness. Physical test would become more efficient and effective if decisions about which items should be and how often examined are determined autonomously by each corporation.
4.Success of the health/fitness programs largely depends upon the person who are actually operating it. Therefore, master degree course which focuses on training of corporate health/fitness program staff may be necessary to supply competent program managers.
