Creativity is personal propensity or ability to think independently and critically and produce the results from such thinking process. The field of Korean language deals with the language itself and the linguistic activity. The linguistic activity consists of the domains of expression and comprehension. In the field of the linguistic activity, it is more important to restructure one`s thought based on his or her point of view than to acquire simple knowledge of the language. That is to say, it is necessary to analyze, criticize and organize the words creatively. This is why the linguistic activity is essentially as same as the creative thinking process. Among the productions of the creative thinking process, the poem is the most representative genre, therefore reading the poetry requires the most creative thinking process. Hence, depending on teachers` views, students` growth level of development of the creative thinking varies. I have studied the development of the creativity through reading the poetry from the 6th graders` textbooks and other materials. Chapter 2, `Reading the poetry` is mainly focused on `the appreciation of sensuous description`, and reading the poetry creatively. Chapter 3, `the reality of teaching` consists of the placement of the proper words`, reorganization for the clearer meaning, and more interesting way of appreciating the poetry based on the actual examples of teaching. It will be possible to make the poetry be part of our daily lives using the various methods that make the poetry more interesting and fun. In the end, the learners will develope the fluency, versatility, creativity and ingenuity through the creative process of comprehending and expressing the language. Therefore, it will be very helpful to develope young learners ability to think creatively to offer many chances of reading the poetry to them.
