전통적 미국 도덕교육의 역사 연구: 근대화가 미국 도덕교육에 미친 영향을 중심으로 = A Study about Traditional Moral Education in America-Influence of modernization on moral education

국문 초록 (Abstract)

영국의 청교도들이 신앙의 자유를 찾아 신대륙으로 이주한 전통에 토대를 두고 식민지 초기부터 미국의 학교교육은 기독교라는 종교에 토대를 두고 이루어졌다. 학교에서의 이루어진 종교교육은 인격형성을 위한 가치교육이라는 관점에서 도덕교육으로 간주되었다. 그러나 1890년대에서 1940년대 이르러 근대화로 인하여 미국사회의 세속화 및 도시화가 진행되면서 학교에서의 도덕교육은 쇠퇴하기 시작했다. 여기에 덧붙여 1963년 미국대법원 판결로 공립학교에서는 더 이상 종교교육이 이루어지지 못하게 되었고, 이로 인해 학교와 사회의 도덕적 상황은 급격하게 악화되었다. 이러한 미국의 사례를 타산지석으로 삼아 우리나라의 학교교육에서 도덕교과가 사라지는 일이 없어야 할 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

American school education were based on Christian religion education according to Puritan tradition. Religion education of school were considered a moral education at the view of character building. But from 1980s to 1940s modernization had led to secularization, and many cities were appeared in America. As a result religion education of school were begun to diminish. In addition, supreme court verdict to prohibit religion education of schools was made at 1963. This verdict had caused to make worse moral environment of American society and schools. We shouldn`t have to abolish moral education of schools, because that is going to make our society worse.
