      A new method to determine the color of restorations, Kubelka-Munk theory was applied to dental zirconia materials(porcelain and core zirconia). Possibility of its application was evaluated in terms of accuracy and predictability. Lava zirconia core blocks were sectioned and prepared with the thickness of 3mm for FS1, FS3 and FS4 specimens. Similarly, Vintage ZR porcelain were prepared with the thickness of 1mm for A1, A2, A3, A3.5, A4 specimens. By applying the data to Kubelka-Munk theory, color prediction was done for every possible combinations of porcelain and core shades. Real color measured by spectrophotometer was compared to the prediction in the CIE Lab color system. The color difference ΔE between the predicted and real color for each specimen combination was averaged about 1.94 (SD 0.41, Min 1.42, Max 2.66). Application of Kubelka-Munk theory to dental zirconia materials seems to have good accuracy based on the data. Manufacturers recommended combinations and their real color showed big discrepancies in that average ΔE is 5.95 (SD 0.61, Min 4.98, Max 6.64). There is greater difference of average ΔE = 7.75 (SD 0.56, Min 6.99, Max 8.48) between prediction by Kubelka-Munk theory and manufacturers recommended combinations.
