참여 기반의 박물관 경험 확장과 박물관 교육의 변화—〈마음복원소〉와 〈기록, Map of You〉의 기획과 실행 = Expansion of Participatory Museum Experiences and Change of Museum Education : Focusing on Mind Restoration Center and the Exhibition Record, Map of You

국문 초록 (Abstract)

박물관은 우리 사회의 공공 기관으로서 그 역할과 책임에 대해 다양한 논의들이 이루어지고 있다. 이 글에서는 박물관의 변화된 개념과 그에 따른 사회적 역할을 살펴보았다. 이러한 이론적 배경을 바탕으로 능동적인 주체로 관람객을 인식하고 이들과 함께 다양한 박물관 경험을 만들어 나가고자 프로그램을 기획하고 실행하였다. 2022년 국립중앙박물관 온라인 프로그램 〈마음복원소〉와 2024년 국립청주박물관 특별전 〈기록, Map of You〉의 관람객 참여 공간이 박물관 교육에서 시도한 참여형 프로그램이다. 이용자가 직접 프로그램 개발에 참여한 〈마음복원소〉를 통해서 관람객과 박물관이 어떻게 관계 형성을 만들어내는지 살펴보았다. 〈기록, Map of You〉 전시에서 설계한 참여 공간은 전시물과 관람객의 ‘보편적 감성’을 연결 지어서 사유의 접근성을 높이고자 시도했다. 박물관이 이용자와 연결되고 그들의 삶 속에서 가치 있는 공간이 될 수 있도록 시도한 사례들이다. 본 연구에서 소개한 두 사례는 박물관과 관람객의 관계 설정 방식에서 전통적인 박물관이 제공하던 전시와 교육의 방식과는 다른 모습을 보여주었다. 또한 이 사례들은 관람객의 내면적 경험과 변화에 초점을 맞추어 기획하였다. 나아가 박물관에서 참여의 경험이 박물관 밖 일상생활 속에서 지속적인 경험으로 확장될 수 있는 것을 목표로 하였다. 본 연구는 다양한 방식의 관람객 참여적 경험이 박물관을 더 쉽게 접근 가능한 장소로 인식될 수 있다는 점을 보여주었다. 따라서 이번 연구를 토대로 관람객의 개별적 경험 확장이 결국 박물관에 능동적으로 접근할 수 있는 환경으로 이어질 수 있다는 점을 인식하고 이에 대한 더욱 발전된 연구가 진행될 수 있기를 바란다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Museums are public institutions in our society that generate various discussions about their roles and responsibilities. This paper examines the evolving concept of museums and their corresponding social roles. It also introduces cases in which visitors are recognized as active agents in co-creating diverse museum experiences.
Pilot participatory programs in museum education include the two cases : the 2022 National Museum of Korea’s online program Mind Restoration Center and the visitor participation space in the 2024 National Cheongju Museum’s special exhibition Record, Map of You. Mind Restoration Center, where users directly participated in the program development process, demonstrates how rapport is formed with visitors. The participatory space designed in the exhibition Record, Map of You aimed to increase accessibility of thought by connecting the exhibits and the universal sensibilities of the visitors. These are examples of efforts to connect museums with users and transform them into valuable spaces in their lives.
This paper aims to examine how the relationship between museums and visitors is formed through visitor participation. It is suggested that the expansion of visitors’ individual experiences can ultimately create an environment where they can actively engage with the museum. Furthermore, this paper ruminates on the significance of the public role and value of museums through consideration of the roles and changes in museum education.
