      Content-based instruction(CBI) in foreign language education has the advantage of integrating foreign language teaching with subject matter teaching appropriate for students' cognitive level. CALLA(Cognitive Academic Language Learning Approach), which adds learning strategies instruction to CBI, is designed to develop the academic language skills of students with limited English proficiency. The present study tries to apply CALLA in Korean primary school setting so that Korean primary school students may learn academic English appropriate for their cognitive level. A class of 5th graders of a primary school in Inchon area were taught with CALLA program model; the model was developed for the purpose of the present study, integrating science and basic English with specific learning strategies. The effectiveness of the program application was analyzed through observation, and self-evaluation; the results show positive response in student participation, interest, and goal achievement. The developed program model will be effective for wider application of CALLA and promotion of immersion program in Korean primary schools.
