The purpose of this article is to analyze Liberal Democratic Party(LDP) politics in the 1980s that called to origine of the current LDP, by exploring LDP`s political response to voters.As a result, two points were obtained. First, the LDP`s policy position and support structures were reset by reform forces which aimed to strengthen leadership. Administrative and financial reforms were set in the initiative strategy of Nakasone and Suzuki. And urban voters were placed in core constituencies as the LDP leader`s power reinforcement strategies. Second, the LDP adjusted interests of support groups in policy promotion, while they put more value on general electorate in policy setting stage. LDP utilized the Fiscal Investment and Loan Program to support groups, and maintained candidate nomination strategies to make full use of the supporter-vote collecting function in the proportional representation constituency of Upper House election. In the short term, these strategies were effective to enhance power of party leaders. However, in the long term, it became a factor allowing to decline the LDP`s political responsiveness, as the monolithic policy consequences of deteriorating intra-party competitions.
