Abstract
This study was done for the purpose of investigating the correlation between health perception, health behavior, and health status of adolescents.
The subjects of this study were composes of 402 students who were attending 1st & 2nd year middle school and 2nd & 3rd year high school. They were selected by stratified random sampling.
The instruments used for this stuffy were the health perception questionnaire developed by John E. Ware, the health behavior questionnaire developed by the author and Cornell Medical Index developed by Brodman etc.
The results of study were as follows :
1. The subject's degree of health perception and health behavior was at a high level (mean score=3.29 and 3.44). And the subjects generally were in good health.
2. In regard to the relationship between the subject's health perception, health behavior, and health status a significant correlations was found to exist between health perception and health behavior (r=.1104, p <.05), between health behavior and health status (r=.1684, p <.01), and between health perception and health status (r=.4069, p <.001). Therefore, the higher the degree of health perception, the higher the degree of health behavior. And the higher the degree of health perception, the higher the degree of health status.
7. In regard to the relationship between the subject's characteristics and variables there was found to be a significant relationship between health perception, health behavior, and health states and age, grade, sect, family number, mnth1y expenditure.
In conclusion, there wart found to be a negative change in all regards in the subjects in higher grades, but one would expect health perception and behavior to be changed positively by health education. Therefore, it is important to include health education in the middle and high school curriculum.
And, it was found that health perception, compliance of health behavior and good health status occured more frequently in the early adolescent group than in the later adolescent group. In the future, further study needs to be done to analyze the factors causing these differences.
