This study aimed to explore the psychological factors influencing the process of interpersonal relationships through theoretical and empirical works. The important psychological factors in interpersonal relationships that were found out through the literature works were interpersonal motives, cognitive processes in interpersonal relations, communication skills and other coping behaviors in various interpersonal situations, interpersonal manners, and satisfactions with interpersonal relationships,
The several questionnaires to measure most of these factors were developed : The Need Scale(130 items). The lrrational Belief Scale(20 items). The Questionnaire for Vulnerability of Interpersonal Relationships(10 items). The Scale for Maladjusted Interpersonal Behaviour Patterns(40 items), and The Questionnaire of Interpersonal Satisfactions(12 items). These tools were administered to 298 secondary school students.
Major findings which were obtained from analysing the responses of the secondary school students were as follow.
Firstly, most of the students were vulnerable in interpersonal adjustments, especially in interpersonal skills and coping behaviors. Secondly, the irrational beliefs were closely related with the interpersonal behaviour(r=.45) and the interpersonal satisfactions(r=.38). Thirdly, the interpersonal motives were closely related to maladjusted interpersonal behavior patterns. Finally, the interpersonal satisfactions(R^2 = .35) were highly predicted to the irrational beliefs, the interpersonal vulnerability, and the maladjusted interpersonal behaviors.
