뭐든지 多 있는 시장? = 안양중앙시장의 도전과 대응

국문 초록 (Abstract)

1970년대와 80년대에 번창했던 전통시장은 유통시장의 전면개방(1996년) 허용과 IMF 경제위기(1997년)속에서 점차 쇠퇴의 길로 접어들었다. 과거 수천 개에 육박하던 전통시장의 수는 현재 1,500여 개로 감소했고 이런 위기를 극복하고자 최근 전통시장들은 변화하고 있다. 과거 경기 지역 최대의 도매시장이었던 안양중앙시장도 대형유통업체의 등장 및 전반적인 경기침체 등과 같은 외 부 환경의 변화와 낙후된 시설, 불만족스러운 서비스 수준, 상인조직들 간의 갈등 등과 같은 내부 환경의 문제로 큰 위기를 맞이하였다. 이에 안양중앙시장은 정부와 지자체의 지원을 통한 시설현대화와 경영혁신사업, 상인들의 서비 스 개선을 위한 자구노력 등을 통해 최근 위기에 적극적으로 대처해 나가고 있으나 내외적으로 아직도 불안 요소들 이 남아있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The traditional marketplaces in Korea had been fairly prosperous throughout the 1970s and 80s; however, they are gradually into the decline since the opening of domestic retail market and especially, the financial crisis resulted in IMF relief loan in 1997. Once reaching nearly a few thousands, the number of the traditional marketplaces has been reduced to merely 1,500. Accordingly, they are in the process of transformation in order to deal with the decline. Anyang Central Market the largest marketplace specializing in wholesale trades, has also been facing a crisis resulted from the external threats such as the economic depression, the emergence of mega-retailers as well as the internal problems such as run-down facilities, customer dissatisfaction, and conflicts among merchant organizations. In order to deal with this crisis they are proactively responding through the facility improvement and the management innovation with the aids of the central government and the municipality as well as the selfactive efforts and measures for service improvement. Although it seems certain that Anyang Central Market is in the right track to overcome the internal and external problems, it is also for sure that there still exist potential uncertainties and threats both internally and externally. Nonetheless, worthwhile are the efforts and measures.
