Today, the international community has been faced with problems such as the resource crisis caused by increasing world population and the acceleration of the economic development of developing countries and the threat of survival due to destruction of environmental. For stable supply of energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, all countries of the world fiercely compete to solve these problems. As a result, the change in a specific area effects to all countries of the world by further strengthening the correlation between energy sources because the interactions between the different fuel markets and prices are becoming more and more active. In addition, the link between gas and coal market is getting stronger by the competition in the individual country and regional power market.
On the other hand, our country that the rate of dependence on energy imports is 96.5% is energy-guzzling nation continuously increasing the energy-consumption due to increase of income. The import energies of coal and LNG are mostly used as fuel for generating power, but the use of fossil fuels causing pollutions and global warming is restricted by international environmental regulations and pressures to our nation.
In order to solve the problems of using these fossil fuel, the demand about the technology that it practically has the high energy conversion efficiency and CO2 emission reduction is increasing. The potential ability of IGCC(Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle) technology among the technologies of using coal is recognized, so the national governments support programs in the commercialization of IGCC operation. Recently, in our country the IGCC technology is set on renewable energy due to those potential ability and the project group of IGCC founded in December 15, 2006 by our government aims to build the 300MW IGCC plant for demonstration until 2016.
Therefore, this paper sets the IGCC plant as the next generation type of coal-fired power plants and establishes the improved method which is able to generate power and to produce SNG to operate IGCC economically in the domestic cost based pool market through the study of IGCC characteristics. And in order to confirm the comparison benefit between the previous method and proposed method, IGCC plants are evaluated by economic evaluation through calculating the benefits in past CBP market from 2004 to 2012.
