자살자 자녀를 둔 농촌지역 어머니의 경험 = A review of experience of mothers of suicide victims

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study examined the experience of mothers who had lost their children to suicide in the rural area using van Manen`s hermeneutic phenomenological approach. Theme clusters after in-depth interviews with 5 mothers in the rural area drew 17 identified themes and 6 essential themes. The study resulted in a hermeneutic writing with title of endure harsh life using six essential themes as follows：feeling world come crashing down, self-accusation, accusatory fingers of the world, child buried in the heart, survivors` distress, everyday life still to manage to live. Those survivors already burned by shock & guilt felt shame from the social stigma. Since they could not go through the proper bereavement process due to the guilty conscience as mothers who faced the death of their child ahead of their own, their wound deepened and got more drawn out. Moreover, the unprivileged rural life was something they had to manage to survive. After all, the life was above the death, and there was nothing greater than the life. This study suggested the social interest in suicide survivors and social welfare practice for them through the experience of female suicide survivors who are not even aware of the public support system or of the counseling services.
