우리나라의 해외교민이 외국과의 무역 및 인적교류에 미치는 영향 분석 - 중력모형의 이용

국문 초록 (Abstract)

우리나라의 해외 교민은 2003년 1월 현재 전세계 151개국에 608만 명(이중 시민권자 및 영주권자는 97개국 542만명)이 거주하고 있으며 이들은 해외 이주 후에도 지속적으로 고국과 직 간접적으로 연계되어 생활하고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은
�\��gravity model)을 이용하여 우리나라의 해외 교민이 이들이 거주하고 있는 국가와 우리나라와의 무역(international trade) 및 인적 교류(international travel)에 어떤 영향을 미치는지를 분석하고자 하는 것이다. 분석 결과, 해외교민은 거의 모든 상품군의 수출과 수입에서 제한적이지만 통계적으로 유의한 정의 영향을 미치고 있다. 특히 해외교민이 우리나라의 수출입에 미치는 영향은 중화학공업 제품보다는 주로 식음료, 의복, 신발 등 경공업 제품에 주로 집중되어 있다. 한편, 해외교민은 외국과의 인적교류에도 목적에 상관없이 통계적으로 유의한 영향을 미치고 있으나 특히 한국인의 출국의 경우에는 관광목적에 특히 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다.
해외교민이 우리나라와 외국과의 물적 및 인적교류에 통계적으로 유의한 긍정적인 역할을 한다는 것을 확인한 것은 매우 의미가 있다. 왜냐하면 이러한 교민의 국가간 교류의 매개체로서의 역할은 향후 정부정책 및 여건의 변화에 따라서 중국 한족의 소위 화교경제권과 유사한 한민족경제권을 형성할 중요한 기반이 될 수 있기 때문이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

As of January 2003, there are over 6 million ethnic Koreans living overseas. These people live their livelihood with direct and indirect connections with their homeland, Korea. The purpose of this paper is to analyze how these Korean emigrants contribute to Korea’s trade and travel linkages with foreign countries. The results show that Korean emigrants have a statistically significant positive impact on both Korea’s exports and imports of goods. In particular, they have a more significant impact on trade in light industry products such as food and beverage, clothing, and footwear. On the other hand, Korean emigrants have a relatively greater impact on Korean people’s outbound travel for sightseeing than any other types of travel.
It is very meaningful to find out that Korean emigrants have a statistically meaningful impact on Korea’s foreign trade and travel because this shows that Korean emigrants could do a greater role in building a Hanminjok (Korean people) economic network in the near future.
