The complexity of pain in the children involves the interaction of multiple dimensions-physiological, behavioral, emotional, cognitive, and developmental. It is proposed that children with chronic pain requires a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment aimed at identifying the multiplicity of factors contributing to pain and pain-related behavior This study is centered on three topics relevant to characteristics of pain in the children and issues of assessment of pain: (1) the plasticity and complexity of children`s pain perception and a model of situational, behavioral, and emotional factor? that affect a child`s pain: (2) developmental factors in behavioral responses and pain expression: (3) pain measurement available for clinical use and the guidelines for their selection. In addition, problems with pain response measurements are discussed.
