설악불교와 지역포교

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문에서는 지역불교 차원에서 설악불교의 역사, 강원도의 인문지리적 특성과 인구분포, 종교인구의 변화와 현황, 그리고 이와 관련된 지역포교의 중요성을 언급하고 설악불교의 지역포교 사례, 현황과 과제 등을 거론한 다음, 지역포교에 따른 설악불교의 나아갈 길을 제시한다. 우리나라 구산선문(九山禪門) 중 지역성을 가장 강력하게 보여준 곳이 바로 설악산의 명주(溟洲)지역이었으며 초기의 사굴산문과 가지산문이다. 산악지형인 강원지역은 교통망의 발달과 지역 축제 및 지역 관광자원을 배경으로 2007년부터 인구가 늘어나기 시작했으며 강원지역 불교인구 비율은 1985년 19.0%에서 1995년 23.2%, 그리고 2005년 23.0%로 10년 동안 큰 변화가 없다. 천주교는 2000년대 중반에 급성장하다 주춤한 상태다. 지역포교는 사찰과 불교를 지역에 알리고 포교를 활성화하는 중요한 요인이다. 더 나아가 지역공동체 활동은 지역과 지역민을 위한 생태환경 조성과 공유가치 실현, 지역중심으로 자립적 경제기반 구축, 지속적인 비즈니스 모델 창출 등으로 지역과 사찰 발전에 이바지한다. 설악불교의 지역포교의 대표적 사례는 이렇다. 백담사의 백담마을을 중심으로 한 마을 공동체 포교. 신흥사 직할 포교당 원각사의 어린이 포교를 중심으로 한 지역포교로 토요불교아카데미, 신흥사의 지역민을 위한 체육대회 및 문화활동, 만해마을 조성과 만해 축전, 그리고 강원지역 포교사단의 지역포교다. 사찰의 지도인력이 지역과 소통하고 대화하며 지역 활동에 나서고, 사찰과 지역의 문화를 바탕으로 문화콘텐츠를 개발하고 활용하며, 사찰의 자원을 지역과 공유하여 지역 경제 발전을 도울 때, 그리고 사찰의 문턱을 낮추고 사찰내에 마을 도서관, 마을카페 등을 만들어 사찰을 지역민에게 개방할 때, 사찰은 지역과 더불어 발전하고 지역사회의 중심으로 자리잡아 나가기 마련이다. 앞으로 설악불교가 대한민국에서도 빼어난 산과 바다, 계곡과 강, 해변과 관광자원, 문화자원을 배경으로 백담사나 원각사의 지역포교사례를 모델로 삼아 이를 확산하고, 설악권에서 지역불교 발전에 매진한다면, 강원불교 전반에서 신행혁신이 이루어지고 교구 발전은 물론 지역 또한 살기 좋은 공간으로 변할 것이다. 이를 위해 지역포교 및 지역공동체 포교 전반을 담지할 수 있는 인력양성과 제도적인 시스템 구축이 중요하다. 또한 사찰의 지역포교에 대한 신뢰를 관과 지역 자치단체에 지속적으로 심어주어야 한다. 아울러 사찰의 지도자들이나 지역불자 리더들이 지역을 알리고, 지역문화를 발전시키며, 지역경제를 살리는 조직과 단체를 지역을 중심으로 만들어 나가는 것도 중요하다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In this paper, I will refer to the history of Buddhism in the region Sorak Buddhist-dimensional, change and population status of Gangwon Province religion. And I will mention to the importance of the local missionary work associated with it. Sorak local missionary practice of Buddhism, who discussed the current status and challenges, including the following, we present the way forward Sorak Buddhism according to the local propagation of Buddhism. Gusan-seonmun Korea(九山禪門) claimed a place in the locality of the most powerful station was just Soraksan-Myoungju(溟洲) area, is a typical example of those early Gagisan-seonmun and Sagul san-seonmun.
