‘체형 만족도 평가지(Body Shape Questionnaire: BSQ)’의 타당화 연구-여대생을 중심으로- = The Validation Study of the Body Shape Questionnaire(BSQ):in Female University Students

The purpose of this study is to verify the reliability and validity of Korean version of the BSQ which are useful instrument for Counseling and Psychological Education to measure the degree of Body Dissatisfaction for whom have physical, psychological, and social problems that are caused by distortion of body shape and weight. For developing Korean version of the BSQ, professional bilingual English-Korean interpreter and other professional experts who are related with Psychology are involved. To prove the validity of the BSQ, concurrent validity for verifying correlation, factor analysis, and Structural Equation Model(SEM) are used. The object of this study, 461 female university students in Seoul, were placed for the BSQ, Eating Disorder Inventory-2 which has been used to demonstrate the BSQ's concurrent validity frequently, and Self-Esteem Scale to prove correlation between body dissatisfaction and self-esteem. As the result of this study, the BSQ‘s high internal consistency(Cronbach α =.95) and test-retest reliability(r=.62, p<.01) which is higher than average are confirmed. Also the BSQ is significantly correlated with EDI-2(r=.89, p<.01) and Body Mass Index (BMI) (r=.39, p<.01), and correlated with SES(r=-.16, p<.01). Therefore, the BSQ's criterion validity and correlation between body dissatisfaction and self-esteem are validated. As the result of factor analysis, two items which are loaded on several factors at the same time are eliminated among 34 items. These 32 items are divided into four factors and named as Fear for Fatness, Shame for Exposure of Appearance, Purging, and Body Dissatisfaction respectively. With this factor analysis, the BSQ's construct validity is also proved. Through this study, the BSQ's validity and reliability are verified. Hence, the BSQ can be used as an objective instrument for Counseling and Psychological Education. Especially the BSQ is useful to help for forming positive body image as developmental task for adolescence and university students who are in the period of being tend to have cognitive distortion regarding body shape and weight which will be heavily cause of body image related problems. It is recommended that the BSQ's following studies extend to various populations for Counseling and Psychological Education that could apply not only to adolescence and university student but also to adult in the future.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 한국어로 번안된 ‘체형 만족도 평가지(Body Shape Questionnaire: BSQ)’의 타당화를 목적으로 수행되었다. 서울에 위치한 S 여대생 461명을 대상으로 BSQ를 실시하여 내적 일치도(Cronbach α=.95)와, 112명을 대상으로 2～3주 간격으로 검사-재검사 신뢰도(r=.62, p<.01)를 구하였다. BSQ의 타당도 검증을 위하여 섭식장애척도(Eating Disorder Inventory-2: EDI-2) 및 로젠버그의 자존감 척도(Self-Esteem Scale: SES)와 단순상관분석을 실시하여 유의한 상관이 있음을 확인하여 동시타당도를 검증하였다. 또한 구성타당도의 검증을 위하여 요인분석과 구조방정식을 사용하였다. 탐색적 요인 분석 결과, BSQ의 34문항 중 여러 요인에 동시에 부하되는 2문항이 제거되었고, 최종 32문항이 사용되었다. 32문항은 비만에 대한 두려움, 노출에 대한 두려움, 구토경험, 체형 불만족 등의 4가지 요인으로 구성되었다. 확인적 요인분석으로 실시한 구조방정식 모형으로 구조의 적합도가 유의하게 검증되었고 모형의 간명성도 입증되었다. 본 연구의 결과로 BSQ의 신뢰도와 타당도가 검증되었으며, 본 도구는 체형과 체중의 왜곡으로 인한 문제를 갖고 있는 내담자들을 위한 상담 및 교육에 유용하게 활용될 수 있는 도구라고 판단된다.
