그림 상징을 이용한 중도·중복장애 학생의 보완대체의사소통 기기 설계 = The hardware and software design of augmentative and alternative communication device using picture symbols for students with severe and multiple disabilities

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Communication disabilities means the case that one cannot express one's intention or that one cannot accept other's speech. Most of severe and multiple disabilities that the disability degree is serious, or that have more than two disabilities have communication disabilities. The augmentative and alternative communication device to promote these students' communicative competence can be a big help to improving disabled students' competency.
Though the necessity of the production and distribution of the electronic augmentative and alternative communication device using the modern information and communication technology for the disable students is being presented, it is difficult for the disable students to purchase and use them because most of them are foreign products and are not suitable for Korea's cultural environment, or inconvenient for the use and the considerable prices.
This paper aimed at designing a low-cost augmentative and alternative communication device of an intermediate level of portable communication board form equipped with picture symbol and voice-output capabilities, USB Interface for the students with severe and multiple disabilities. It adopted the System on Chip of C8051 system for this, and supplied and the conveniences such as the addition, deletion, editing and audio file management through the supply of the soft sound quality and the linkage with PC by supplying MP3 level of audio and USB interface.
But, the augmentative and alternative communication device developed in this paper is a fixed structure to be unable to change or rearrange the picture symbol, so, requires additional researches for these things because having difficulties in changing the instrument shape and producing a generalized symbol according to the various disability characteristics.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

의사소통 장애란 자신의 의사를 언어로 표현하거나 타인의 언어를 수용하지 못하는 경우를 말하며, 장애 정도가 심하거나 둘 이상의 장애를 가진 중도·중복장애의 대다수가 의사소통 장애를 가지고 있다. 이러한 학생의 의사소통 능력을 촉진하기 위한 보완대체의사소통 기기는 장애 학생의 언어 능력을 향상시키는데 큰 도움이 될 수 있다.
장애 학생을 위하여 현대 정보통신기술을 이용한 전자적 형태의 보완대체의사소통 기기의 제작과 보급의 필요성이 제기되고 있으나, 대부분이 외국 제품으로 우리나라 문화적 환경에 적합하지 않거나 사용상의 불편함, 상당한 가격으로 장애 학생이 구입하여 사용하기 어렵다.
본 논문에서는 중도·중복장애 학생을 대상으로 한 그림 상징과 음성 출력 기능, USB 인터페이스를 갖춘 중간 수준의 휴대용 의사소통 판 형태의 보급형 보완대체의사소통 기기를 설계하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 C8051계열의 시스템온칩을 채용하였으며, MP3 수준의 오디오와 USB 인터페이스를 제공하여 부드러운 음질의 제공과 PC와의 연동을 통한 그림 상징의 추가, 삭제, 편집 및 음성 파일 운용의 편의성을 제공하였다.
그러나 본 논문에서 개발한 보완대체의사소통 기기는 그림 상징의 변경 또는 재배열을 할 수 없는 고정된 구조로 개개인의 다양한 장애 특성에 따라 기기의 모양을 변형할 수 없다는 점과 일반화된 상징 제작에 어려움이 있어 이에 대한 추가적인 연구가 요구된다.
