마가복음의 그리스 비극적 요소 = 합창의 신분과 기능

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 마가복음의 극적 특성이 아니라 총체적인 무대 공연을 위한 시각적 그리고 청각적 자극을 포함한 연극적 · 공연적 특성을 부각시키려는 의도로 시작한 것이다. 본 연구는 마가복음에서 그리스 비극의 합창을 기능적으로 수행할 수 있는 인물을 추적하고자 한다. 본 연구는 “뭇사람” 혹은 “사람”으로 번역되거나 번역되지 않는 불특정 다수와 설명적 문구들 그리고 몇 가지 요소들에 집중하여(1:22; 1:27; 2:12; 5:15; 5:20; 6:2; 7:37) 이들의 합창적 기능을 확인하고자 한다. 이들은 익명성을 유지할 뿐만 아니라 집단성을 갖고 있으며, 예수 운동에 대한 이해에 상당한 변화를 제공한다. 마가의 설명적 문구들 역시 나레이터의 이상을 재현하고 있다. 저자는 설명적 문구를 시기적절하게 이용하여 플롯의 전개를 돕고 있다. 마가복음의 삼인칭 복수의 사람들과 설명적 문구들은 그리스 합창이 수행하는 기능의 일부분을 공유하고 있음을 보여주고 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

My goal in this paper is to explore a connection between Greek tragedy and the Gospel of Mark. The relation continues to be explored by scholars. One feature that has yet to receive the attention it merits is the place of the Markan crowds and explanatory statements in relation to the chorus in Greek tragedy. There is a certain obvious similarity in function: the responses of the these features amplify the significance of an actor’s actions. The chorus acts as a whole, speaks with one voice, and contains no distinctive individuals. The choruses intensify the drama and represents the idealized spectator. In the Gospel of Mark, the crowds and explanatory statements are actors in the sense that they advance the action in the manner of Greek tragedy. Their responses to Jesus and explanatory statements even engender action. There is an obvious sense in which the crowds and explanatory statements heighten the drama. Their fear, astonishment, amazement, and outbursts are reactions to Jesus’ words and deeds. In the Gospel of Mark, the crowds and explanatory state- ments can be construed as idealized spectators who would embody the general sympathy of all potential audience. It is safe to say that the crowds and explanatory statements do share some of the functions that are associated with the tragic chorus.
