The effects of additives on the intermediate phases of BaCO₂-Fe₂O₃ system were studied. Techniques employed were thermogravimetry, X-ray diffraction analysis, differential thermal analysis, scanning electron microscopy and B-H curve tracer.
It is shown that additives have remakable effects on the formation of intermediate phases (BaO·Fe₂O₃) of BaCO₃ -Fe₂O₃ system and magnetic properties of Ba-ferrite. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that the overall reaction consists of the two consecutive principal reactions ;
BaCO₃+6Fe₂O₃→BaO·Fe₂O₃+5Fe₂O₃+CO₂↑
BaO·Fe₂O₃+5Fe₂O₃→BaO·6Fe₂O₃
Results of DTA analysis also supported the above reaction.
