전주류씨 함벽당 종가 간찰의 내용과 성격

국문 초록 (Abstract)

간찰은 전통사회에서 받는 사람에게 문자로 의사를 전달할 수 있는 통신수단으로서 개인의 삶이나 일상생활의 모습을 생생하게 보여주고 보내는 사람의 정서가 담긴 흥미로운 자료이다. 간찰은 다양한 인간관계에서 글로서 소식을 전하는 매체였기 때문에 상대에 대한 배려와 예의 그리고 일정한 격식을 갖추어야 했다. 간찰은 부모와 형제, 일가 친척들과 친구들처럼 친밀한 사이에 많이 오고 갔으나 사돈과 같이 어려운 사이에도 왕래되었고, 드물기는 하지만 여성들이 한글으로 쓴 언간諺簡도 있다. 간찰에 담긴 내용은 일상생활에서 일어나는 소소한 일과 혼례나 상례와 같이 인간사에서 누구나 만나게 되는 큰 일에 축하와 위로의 소식을 전하는 것이 가장 많다. 뿐만 아니라 가뭄과 기근 그리고 전염병의 유행 등 자연재해에 어떻게 대처하였는지를 알 수 있는 것도 있다. 나아가서 심오한 학술적인 내용을 토론하는 간찰도 있으며 국가의 중대사를 논의하는 것도 있다. 이처럼 간찰은 만나서 나누어야 할 이야기를 글로 대신 펼치는 것이어서 직접 대면하였을 때보다 더 정중한 예법이 필요하였다.
이 논문은 조선후기 안동지역의 유력한 가문이었던 함벽당 종가에서 오랫동안 보존되어왔던 자료를 중심으로 그 내용을 살펴보고 그것이 전통사회에서 어떤 성격을 가지는지를 검토하였다. 간찰은 전통사회에서 일어났던 일상적인 일들이 어떻게 처리되었고 어떤 의미를 가지는가에 대해 중요한 시사점을 주고 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In traditional society, Ganchal(Letters) is an interesting means of communication that can convey one’s intention to another by text, and it is an interesting data that vividly shows the life of an individual or daily life and contains the emotions of the sender. Since the ganchal was a medium for delivering news in writing without meeting in person in various human relationships, it had to be used in a form of consideration and courtesy to the other person. The ganchal was specifically exchanged between parents, brothers, family relatives, and friends, but even in difficult relationships, such as in-laws, and there are rare letters written in Korean that women want to convey. The most common content in the inspection is to convey congratulatory and consolation news to the funeral, wedding ceremony, which happens to everyone, such as small daily lives, funeral and weddings. There is also an explanation of how they dealt with natural disasters such as infectious diseases, drought, and famine that were popular at that time. Furthermore, there is a letter to discuss profound academic content. The ganchal was to tell stories that should be met and shared instead of writing, so more polite manners were needed than when they were faced in person.
This paper examined the contents of the Hambyeokdang family, which had been preserved for a long time, and examined the nature of the ganchal in traditional society. The ganchal is meaningful in that it gives important implications for how everyday events that happened in traditional society were handled and what meaning it has.
