정상성의 경계 재구성하기 = 구술생애사로 실펴본 30대 여성의 불임 경험

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 30대 여성의 불임 경험을 구술생애사적 접근으로 분석함으로써 그동안 개별화·추상화되었던 불임 경험을 구조화·역사화하고자 한다. 이 연구에서 집중적으로 분석하고자 한 바는 구술자가 자신의 생애 전체를 조망하는 가운데 불임에 어떠한 의미를 부여하고 있는가이다. 구술생애사로 불임 경험을 분석해 보면 불임은 구술자가 자신의 생애에서 수행해야 하는 여러 가지 과업 중 하나일 뿐이다. 즉 취업이나 결혼과 같은 다른 생애 과업과 마찬가지로 "준비"하여 "노력"하고 "결과"를 얻어내는 일인 것이다.
불임을 경험하면서 구술자들은 자신의 몸 그리고 임신 방식이나 양육-일 양립에 대해 기존 정상성의 경계를 확장하거나 새롭게 정립하였다. 이들의 이와 같은 정상성 재구성하기가 언제나 성공을 거두는 것은 아니며 확장 혹은 새롭게 정립한 경계 안에 안착하였다하여도 그것은 언제나 위태롭다. 이러한 양상은 이들이 "나는…"으로 시작하는 주체적인 구술생애사를 서술하고 그러한 가운데 불임 경험을 구술할 때에도 자신이 결정하고 자신이 해결하는 서술 형태를 구사하지만, 이들의 경험이 사회구조적 규범의 제약 속에 놓여 있음을 보여주는 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this research is to organize and historize the individual and abstract infertility experiences of the women in their 30s by accepting the approach of oral life story in analyzing the experiences. The important focus of the analysis is which meaning the storytellers give to their infertility experience when taking the wide view of there lives. The Analysis result shows that the infertility experience is only one of the diverse tasks storytellers should carry out in their lives. In other words, infertility is another task such as job searching or wedding for which people should :be prepared," "make efforts," and "obtain results."
The storytellers that have experienced infertility tended to expand or newly restructure the boundary of the existing normalcy for their bodies, ways of conception, and compatibility of childrearing and working. However, this kind of normalcy boundary reconstruc turing was not always successful and, even if they could be nestled within the boundary they expanded or newly restructured, the status might be always risky. This demonstrates that their experiences still lie in the restriction of socio-structural norm even though they seemed to decide and solve their fertility-related experiences individually when starting stories with "I" and telling the infertility expenences.
