Chang Po-go was a merchant prince who played an important role in maritime trades in East Asia during the early 9th century. By examining his activities, we can find out how well people of Shilla Dynasty had traded with other countries and expanded their power. They made a big success in maritime trades by adapting the trading system of the Korean communities along the east coast of China. Due to his outstanding achievement in foreign trading, later, he could go into the political world of Shilla Dynasty. But some people of the ruling group was afraid of his power and killed him, which led to the collapse of his maritime kingdom. His activities were considered the prelude informing the world of the appearance of the Hojok changed from maritime forces at that time.
