The renewable energy sources have huge advantages which are infinite and clean. For these reasons, development of the renewable energy sources has shown rapid growth over the world and the connection of large capacity of the renewable energy sources to existing network has been getting increase. However, the renewable energy sources have characteristics that are intermittent and low quality of power and those disadvantages have an effect on disturbance of renewable energy sources spread.
Introduction of energy storage system has been started to solve many problems which occur by connecting renewable energy sources to existing system. It shows that high quality of power from renewable energy sources can be supplied through charge and discharge operation of energy storage system.
In this thesis, effectively ESS(Energy Storage System) application method is studied to operate existing system connected renewable energy sources which has been shown fastest growth among the renewable energy sources in the world with stable condition.
First, this thesis introduces output smoothing method to mitigate unstable system with renewable energy sources and then simple average method is proposed to set target output. Output smoothing algorithm considering constraint of BESS is presented and coded by MATLAB. Also the result of renewable energy sources output smoothing is analyzed through application of proposed operation algorithm which is considering constraint of BESS.
