한국영화의 초국가적 역학과 영토적 논리

국문 초록 (Abstract)

21세기 글로벌 시대에 제작되는 영화들은 자본, 자원, 인력, 그리고 시각적 기호와 텍스트의 초국가적 순환을 징후적으로 보여주는 경우가 많다. 국경을 자의로 자유롭게 넘나드는 “세계시민주의자/세계인”(cosmopolitan)이든, 폭력이나 타의로 건널 수밖에 없는 이주노동자, 추방자, 또는 난민이든, 이들 모두 글로벌 자본주의 시대의 논리에 속한 초국가적 객체라 볼 수 있다. 본 연구는 동아시아의 지정학적 균형을 고려하며, 한국의 특수한 위치와 상황에서 발생하는 인력의 이주와 자본의 순환이 한국영화에서 어떻게 다루어지는가 분석한다. 더 구체적으로 이야기하자면, 본 연구는 한국의 특수한 위치와 상황으로 인해 발생하는 노동인력의 이주와 자본의 순환이 최근 한국영화에서 어떻게 재현되는가 살펴본다. 가령, 이주노동자, 결혼이주여성, 무국적자, 난민 등과 같은 “이동하는 타자들,” 혹은 장기매매 등의 초국가적 범죄망을 다루는 영화들에 초점을 맞춘다. 동아시아 지역의 특수한 지정학적 상황을 배경 삼아, 신자유주의 경제 논리 속에서 산산이 조각나고 분리되는 신체의 모습을 통해 국가의식 혹은 지역의식 분열, 발전, 혹은 변형되는 모습을 재현하는 최근 한국 영화를 분석한다. 본 연구는 글로벌 네트워크와 유동성을 지향하는 시대에 국가적 경계가 허물어지는 듯하지만, 반면에 국가에 대한 의식, 소속감 혹은 배타적 성향이 더욱 강경해지는 현상도 동시에 일어나는 이 충돌지점의 영화적 재현을 재조명하고 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In the context of global cinema, transnational mobility is often manifested in films through thematic and visual tropes of traveling and navigating geographically complex spaces and trajectories. As a product of cross-cultural collaborations, many aspects of contemporary cinema (e.g., themes, narratives, visual images, and mediated sensations of mobility) are symptomatic of a transnational experience. East Asia produces many region-specific examples of bodies existing in or moving through transnational zones. This paper considers the (often violent) relationship between circulations of the human body and capital in the context of East Asia, particularly in regard to the issues of labor migration, human trafficking, and transnational crime. This paper examines contemporary Korean films that narrativize cross-border journeys through the experiences of ethnic Koreans from mainland China (“Joseonjok”) who enter the modernized spaces of South Korea to earn money, as well as newly emerging cosmopolitans that traverse national borders as easily as the boundaries between legal and illegal acts. This paper focuses particularly on circulations of human bodies that embody the fractured psyche of nationalism in transnational zones that exist within, outside, and across national territories.
