청소년 문학에 나타난 ‘성장’의 문제 : 김려령의 『완득이』를 중심으로 = A Study on problem of ‘Growth’ in Young-adult Literature

This thesis examined the problem of growth in young-adult literature, especially Wandeuky written by Kim, Ryeo-Ryeong. Wandeuky is the bestseller in the field of young-adult Literature. This book led the new state which made a variety of genre in Korean literature. The achievement of Wandeuky effected the children’s literature. But the spread of growth-code became the background of this situation. With Chick-lit, many initiation stories have been published recently.
The adolescent period is very important to their lives. So young-adult literature has to have true character that deal with youth problem directly. Young-adult literature, what is called 1318 literature, deals with the problem of growth of teenagers and represents the growing pain of them. The growth narrative of young-adult literature is composed of main character who is a youth suffered from poverty, conflict of parents or friends, oppression of teachers and a helper who assists the main character with several ways.
Wandeuky is the very special novel which deals with problem of growth. The main character, Wandeuk’father is a dwarf and his mother is a Vietnamese. But Wandeuk’s character is not serious and depressed. Sometimes he uses violence against friends who insult his father but his nature is mild. Another main character Dongju drags Wandeuk out of the house and his own world. Therefore Wandeuk came out of his small world and has his dream. The writer has described Wandeuk’s growth truly and agreeably.
