      다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study reveals the maternal experience as a social relationship, rather than the natural maternity of biological fate, through the concept of maternal thinking, and through this, the feminist epistemology for thoughts on the true character and peace of human are presented. This is also an attempt to avoid limiting 'maternity' as a special experience for women, but instead to conceptualize it as a typical human activity.
In security discourses, the diagram of the subject/object are established in a dichotomous frame of men that protects and women that are protected, similar to that of the protector and protected, enemy and ally, civilian and soldier, etc. The others are the enemy, and it is impossible to have any kind of relationship with the others, who are the enemy. This is a reasoning that is based on an autonomous individual that believes alliances or cooperation damages the self's independence.
However, in the case of mothers, a typical protector/protected relationship cannot be recreated. In the relationship of care-giving mothers, they have resources and power, but the power of mothers is not translated into victory or authority over their children. This is because the objective of this relationship is not competitive or aimed at acquiring authority. Despite the differences of resources, experience and power that exist between mothers and children, the reason why the relationship of the two is not of a typical control and controlled relationship is due to 'maternal thinking'. This is not caused by biological reasons such as the women's womb and delivery actions. The delivery-mother and breeder-mother are categorized differently, and delivery processes are a social process, while breeding processes are issues not only for women, but a typical issue for the entire society. The ethics of care giving does not fall into self-contradiction that shows women as an easy target by displaying women victims, but emphasizes women as mothers to stress the new women subjects that negotiates with the nation, and it is an ethical theory that denies the hierarchical dichotomy of the strong protecting the weak.
Maternal thinking can change the militaristic thinking that once can protect their self only when they model their self after the strongest other, to a perception of contemplating their position in relation to self-examination of the resources that they have. Through this kind of maternal thinking, the idealized autonomy concept in the framework of self-reliant defense and Korea-US alliance that composes the current security discourses can recognize the mutual relationship via maternal thinking. In addition, through intersubjectivity that emphasizes historicity, the dichotomy that treats others as enemies can be transformed into coexisting based on understanding of the others.
