지역연구(area studies)의 이론과 방법론에 대한 인류학적 성찰: 호남 지역문화 연구의 새로운 지평을 위하여 = The Anthropological Perspectives on the Theory and Methodology of Area Studies: The Case Study of Area Studies in Honam Area, Korea

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper examines the theory and methodology of area studies critically. In doing so, I investigate the interrelationship between area studies and anthropology, estimate the outcomes of previous ``honam(호남)``(including Jellanam-do and Jellabuk-do provinces which are located in Southwestern area of Korea Peninsula) area studies, and propose the orientations towards the development of ``honam`` area studies in the future. For this purpose, I review some issues on the theoretical and methodological works to reflect and develop the ``honam`` area studies in Korea. And I think that this study is to (re)interpretate the outcomes of previous ``honam`` area studies, especially focused on ``honam`` culture and society, including cultures and societies of islanders` everyday of lives, urban history and culture of port cities, and maritime culture and history and folklore. Furthermore, I review how to integrate the various approaches of different disciplines and fields of ``honam`` area studies into a new academic area or an united knowledge system to provide the proper understanding of ``honam`` culture and society.
