제17대 대선 후보자의 온라인 보도자료 특성과 언론의 선거보도에 대한 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 선거 캠페인 수단으로 활용되고 있는 후보자의 웹사이트가 어떠한 메시지들로 구성되어 있으며, 이들에 대한 언론 보도의 연관성은 있는지를 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 제17대 대통령 선거에 출마한 6명의 후보자 웹사이트 그리고 대표적인 언론매체로서 조선일보와 KBS의 선거보도를 살펴보았다. 후보자 공식 홈페이지에 게재된 보도자료의 메시지 주제는 이미지와 관련되어 있으며, 부정적인 메시지가 대다수인 것으로 나타났다. 또한 분석된 조선일보와 KBS의 선거보도 역시 부정적인 메시지가 가장 높은 비율을 차지하고 있다. 그러나 선거보도 주제는 캠페인 관련 이슈(탈법, 당내 경선, 후보자출마, 후보자 단일화)에 가장 많은 보도를 할애하여 이미지를 강조하는 후보자 온라인 보도자료와 대조를 보이고 있다. 이러한 결과는 후보자 웹사이트가 홍보매체로서의 기능이 강조되는 반면, 언론매체는 뉴스가치를 극대화하려는 점에서 이해될 수 있을 것이다. 또한 국내 선거에서 온라인 보도자료를 통한 홍보활동이 미디어 의제를 형성하는데 있어 한계를 가지고 있다는 점을 시사하고 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study examined the content of press release from the six presidential candidates’ websites and election news coverage of Chosun Ilbo and KBS in the 17th presidential election campaign. Further, the message difference between the online campaign agenda and the media news coverage was studied. According to the results, the websites were more focused on image-oriented news than campaign issues related to illegal event and candidate unification, while the media election coverage was more associated with campaign issues than other types of message. This finding might imply that the candidates' websites function as PR channel and the mass media reporting election news seeks a negative news frame including conflict, crisis, threat, etc.
