고대영어 ne의 문법범주와 기능 = The Grammatical Categories and Functions of the Old English ne

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The Old English (OE) negative ne occurs in some ambiguous constructions in which ne can be interpreted as either adverb or coordinator. This ambiguity has resulted in a variety of textual editions and translations of the relevant OE manuscripts. This study first examines the syntactic properties of the grammatical categories and functions of the OE ne, then attempts to establish methods of the identification of each category of ne in terms of its syntactic distributions. Such factors as the occurrence of ne immediately before a finite verb or a coordinated bare-infinitive, negativity of its preceding context, word order, and mood contribute to the identification of a category of ne. The linguistic findings in this paper will have implications for the philological and paleographical studies of OE manuscripts.
