이청준 소설의 윤리학 -탈근대적 민중공동체 복원을 향한 근원 사유 = Ethics of Lee Chung-jun`s Novel -The Originated Thought about Restoration of Ex-modern People`s Community

Lee Chung-jun`s Novels often show aporia at endings. It seem that the aporia came from his own problem that his ontological thought is contradictory to his ethics. His early novels presented the thematic problem that one`s quest for freedom is unavoidably as oppressive to the other. In his late novels, he focused on the matter of restoration of ex-modern people`s community. His last novel,『An Island which swallows myth』well demonstrates the originated thought about restoration of ex-modern people`s community, with questioning how a folk memory has become a myth, and how the dominant power abuses the myth for its own purpose. Every community has its myth as its origin, and the myth is the center which hopes, dreams, desires and ideals of the community members are gathered around. But the myth is created by associating mythos with logos and the myth itself is a product of a collective will which subordinates the individual will to. The myth which an community is founded on, get logic of identification to work and maintains as oppressive to community members. So, 『An Island which swallows myth』 implies an community has its liberating powers only when a dream of it will never be accomplished and it remains incomplete, as an abortive hero motive in folk narratives implies.
