한국 프로스포츠 외국인 선수에 대한 사회이론적 탐색

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 한국 프로 스포츠에서 활동 중인 외국선수(용병)에 대한 사회문화적 영향을 고찰하는데 목적이 있다. 보다 구체적으로 본 연구에서는 외국선수의 영향력이 가장 높다고 판단되는 프로농구 내 외국선수를 대상으로 연구를 진행하였으며, 외국선수 도입배경, 외국선수가 한국 프로농구에 미친 사회문화적 영향, 갈등, 외국선수에 대한 사회이론적 의미에 대해 탐색하였다. 이를 위하여 본 연구에서는 신문기사자료 및 학술자료를 검색하여 연구자료로 활용하였고, 이와 함께 구단 관계자 2명, 스포츠 기자 2명, 전직 농구선수 1명, 그리고 현직 농구선수 1명과의 면담을 통해 관련 자료를 수집하였다.
연구결과 1997년 프로농구가 출범하며 외국선수제도를 시행하게 된 배경에는 크게 팀 간 전력평준화를 추구하고 프로농구로서 흥행을 높이기 위해 외국선수가 영입된것을 발견하였다. 이어 외국선수가 한국 프로농구에 미친 사회문화적 영향으로 국내 프로농구의 발전에 기여하였다. 그러나 부작용으로는 외국선수의 중심화와 이로 인한 국내선수의 주변화가 진행되었다. 국내 센터 선수들의 퇴출되었고, 이에 초, 중, 고 농구선수들이 센터 포지션 기피현상이 발견되었다. 또한 이로 인해 국제대회에서의 성적이 하락되는 결과를 초래하였다. 국내 프로농구 구단, 감독/코치, 선수, 심판과 외국선수들과의 갈등으로는 심판구타, 마약복용, 무단 귀국, 감독 및 선수들과의 마찰 등이 보고되었다. 끝으로 국내 프로농구 외국선수는 스포츠의 세계화의 한 측면으로 이해할 수 있으며 특히 신 국제 문화 노동 분업으로서 문화 선진국-후진국 간의 종속구조가 국내 프로농구에서 일정 부분 재현되고 있는 것으로 분석되었다.

The purpose of the study was to explore socio-cultural influences of foreign athletes playing in Korean professional sport leagues. Specifically, this study explored foreign basketball players who are considered affecting significant socio-cultural impacts on their league. In this study, background of introduction of foreign basketball players, socio-cultural influences that foreign basketball players have made, controversies, and socio-theoretical meaning of the foreign athletes were explored. As a research method, newspaper articles and academic data were collected and interviews with two employees of professional basketball teams, two sports journalists, one former basketball player, and one current basketball players were conducted.
As a result, foreign basketball players were introduced to Korean basketball league in attempt to standardize teams' performance level within the league and to promote popularity of the professional basketball league. As a socio-cultural influences that foreign basketball players have made, we found that 1) they have contributed the development of Korean basketball, however as negative effects, 2) centralization of foreign basketball players, while marginalization of Korean basketball players were made, 3) Korean center position players' thrown ou
