This paper focuses on describing the introduction of the Fall-cone test and equipment, the procedures for calculation index parameters from test data and their aplication to the practical geotechnical problems.
The Fall-Cone Test is a portable device that measures liquid limit and plastic limit of consistency by using the resistance to penetration of cone. A object of this paper is to propose empirical correlations by soil type between index parameters and soil parameters using Fall-cone data of Site Kimhae, gamman and Kyangyang which exist soft clay to very deep depth respectively.
To accomplish this object, we make experiments on the conventional laboratory test(such as Casagrande test, uniaxial test, triaxial test, oedometer test) and field test(such as piezocone penetration test) data.
An empirical correlations that proposed in this paper can be used to estimate a number of basic geotechnical parameters such as liquid and plastic limit, rate of strength increase, compression index, rate of compression, activity and undrained shear strength.
