The systematic study on the direct reduction of primary carboxamides to the corresponding aldehydes with lithium tris(diethylamino)aluminum hydride under the practical conditions (tetrahydrofuran, room temperature) has been done on the representative primary carboxamides.
Aromatic primary carboxamides are transformed to the corresponding aldehydes in high yields at room temperature. However, the yields of aldehydes in the redution of aliphatic primary carboxamides are relatively lower.
