학습 독서 전략에 대한 연구 = A Study on Content Area Reading Strategies

In a modern knowledge-based society the ability to comprehend informational texts or
expository texts is extremely important in that it becomes the foundation for acquiring and
creating new knowledge. Even though they have to read well those text to survive in the
future society many students do not have sufficient ability to understand them. The reason
is that they lack awareness and knowledge of content area reading strategies that facilitate
the process of understanding, memorizing, and retrieving texts.
In this study, among content area reading strategies that promote comprehension of informational
texts, some strategies that elementary students can easily utilize while reading
those texts were examined. Specifically, KWL, Question-Answer Relationships, ReQuest,
SQ3R, and Graphic Organizer were explored. In addition, a few reasons why reading researchers
and elementary school teachers should be interested in those strategies in order
to improve reading comprehension of elementary schoolers were discussed.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

오늘날과 같은 지식 정보화 사회에서 정보를 전달하는 텍스트를 잘 이해하는 능력은 새로운
지식을 습득하고 창출하는 토대가 된다는 점에서 매우 중요한 의미를 갖는다. 그러나 많은 학
생들은 미래 사회를 살아가는 데 요구되는 텍스트를 이해하는 능력을 충분히 갖추고 있지 않
다. 이것은 학생들이 텍스트를 이해하고, 기억하고, 인출하는 과정을 촉진하는 학습 독서 전략
에 대한 인식과 지식을 결여하고 있기 때문이다.
이 연구에서는 텍스트에 대한 이해를 촉진하는 학습 독서 전략들 중에서 초등 독자들이나
초등 교사들이 정보를 전달하는 텍스트를 읽으면서 혹은 가르칠 때 쉽게 활용할 수 있는 학습
독서 전략 몇 가지를 살펴보았다. 구체적으로 KWL, 질문과 답의 관계, ReQuest, SQ3R, 그리
고 도해 조직자 학습 독서 전략을 소개하였다. 아울러, 읽기 연구자와 초등학교 교사들이 초등
학생들의 읽기 이해를 증진하기 위하여 학습 독서 전략에 관심을 가져야 하는 이유에 대해서
도 논의하였다.
