무지에서 계몽으로: 『주역』 몽괘의 교육 서사와 체육교육에의 적용 = From Ignorance to Enlightenment: Educational Stages of the Meng Hexagram (蒙卦) in the Zhou Yi (周易) and Their Application to Physical Education

The Zhou Yi (周易) is a classical text encompassing a vast system of knowledge, representing a philosophical endeavor to understand the principles of the universe and nature through the symbolism of hexagrams. Notably, the Zhou Yi does not confine the symbolism embodied in hexagrams to the level of abstract cognition; rather, it demonstrates the ancient Chinese effort to apply these symbols to the real world. The practical nature of the Zhou Yi has long been widely recognized. Among its hexagrams, the Meng (蒙卦) symbolizes the path of enlightenment and has existed as a distinct type of ancient educational philosophy. This study analyzes the Meng Hexagram statement (卦辭) and the line statements (爻辭) to explore its relevance to contemporary physical education. Through this hermeneutic engagement, this study identifies six educational themes―meaning of discipline, inclusivity, temptation and failure, self-reflection, lifelong learning, and coaching―that can enrich philosophical foundations of physical education.
