Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the actual condition of research papers in the field of curriculum conducted based on grounded theory, and to suggest a direction for improvement based on the findings.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the actual condition of research papers in the field of curriculum conducted based on grounded theory, and to suggest a direction for improvement based on the findings.
Design/methodology/data/approach: Independent analysis standards were prepared for this study by referring to recent studies conducted for similar purposes domestically and internationally, and 14 selected theses using grounded theory in curriculum areas were analyzed according to these analysis standards.
Findings/Results: The mechanical and uniform application of specific research models, especially the paradigm model of Strauss and Corbin, the results of research that stays in the conceptual description of the phenomenon rather than theorization, and the lack of interest or understanding of various grounded theories appeared during the analyisis.
Value: This research can be of great value in helping educational researchers to re-understand the nature of grounded theory. In addition to that, this research suggested a new direction for researchers who want to conduct research in the field of curriculum using grounded theory. There is an urgent need to reduce the dependence on a specific model and expand the ability to utilize various grounded theories.
