우리나라 교육과정 연구에서 근거이론의 활용방식이 지닌 문제점 = Problems with Using Grounded Theory in Curriculum Research in Korea

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the actual condition of research papers in the field of curriculum conducted based on grounded theory, and to suggest a direction for improvement based on the findings.
Design/methodology/data/approach: Independent analysis standards were prepared for this study by referring to recent studies conducted for similar purposes domestically and internationally, and 14 selected theses using grounded theory in curriculum areas were analyzed according to these analysis standards.
Findings/Results: The mechanical and uniform application of specific research models, especially the paradigm model of Strauss and Corbin, the results of research that stays in the conceptual description of the phenomenon rather than theorization, and the lack of interest or understanding of various grounded theories appeared during the analyisis.
Value: This research can be of great value in helping educational researchers to re-understand the nature of grounded theory. In addition to that, this research suggested a new direction for researchers who want to conduct research in the field of curriculum using grounded theory. There is an urgent need to reduce the dependence on a specific model and expand the ability to utilize various grounded theories.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

근거이론은 우리나라 교육과정 분야에서 활발하게 활용되고 있는 질적연구 방법의 하나이다. 본 연구에서는 그동안 근거이론을 활용하여 수행된 교육과정 분야 연구들이 지닌 문제점을 파악하고, 이에 기초하여 근거이론 활용과 관련한 개선 방안을 제시하였다. 분석 대상은 근거이론을 활용하여 수행된 14편의 교육과정 분야 논문이다. 분석을 위해 국내외에서 유사한 목적으로 수행된 2편의 최근 연구를 참고로 독자적 분석 기준을 마련하였다. 연구의 결과 특정 연구 모형, 특히 스트라우스와 코빈의 패러다임 모형의 기계적이고 일률적인 적용이 가장 큰 문제점으로 드러났다. 이와 함께 이론화보다는 현상에 대한 개념적 기술에 머무르는 연구 결과, 최근 발표된 다양한 근거이론에 대한 관심 부족 혹은 이해 부족 등이 문제점으로 나타났다. 근거이론이 우리나라 교육과정의 실제에 대한 분석 도구로서의 유용성을 획득하고, 나아가 우리나라의 교육적 맥락을 반영한 교육과정 이론의 구축에 기여하기 위해서는 몇 가지 개선이 필요하다. 첫째는 특정한 모형에 대한 의존도를 낮추는 일이다. 둘째는 최근에 발표된 다양한 이론들에 대한 적극적인 수용 노력이다. 셋째는 교육 현상에 대한 이해나 설명을 넘어 이론화를 추구하는 연구자들의 적극성이다.
