This thesis aims at systemic suggestions for revitalization of music academies in towns and villages for children who benefit relatively less from education than those who live in a city to grasp the situation and differences and to have a better education environment for them.
Details of the study are composed of (1)general facts of a guidance instructor, (2)general facts of a music academy, (3)the situation of music academy facilities, (4)the quality of education and guidance in a music academy, (5)a matter of efforts for upgrading the quality of a guidance teacher, (6) problems of music academies and a plan for revitalization.
The research focused on 23 places of music academies located in towns and villages in Jeju city and 13 places of those in Seogwipo city. 39 questions of questionnaires were completed by visiting principals and instructors of 22 music academies, which answered "yes" after a phone call.
The results are as follows.
First, there needs to change the recognition of education as a a assistant means of public education in a music academy into a means of self-actualization and seeing the beauties in life and enjoying art.
Second, the number of academies should be restricted within limited area and a system that an academy of cerntain level only can manage should be prepared so as to let children have high quality of education.
Third, a chance of music education for lots of children in towns and villages should be given to support educational expenses by entrusting classroom after school, which a school runs, to an academy having a certain level of quality within the area.
Fourth, it needs to widen the scope of students from an elementary school student to an adult. Diversifying the range of students and increasing the number of men has to be done to strengthen academy's competitiveness.
Fifth, it should be done to choose musical instruments except piano as an educational program not to only educate piano and theory in priority. In addition, opening and systematizing a crash course needs to be done.
Sixth, most instructors are found that they participate in a concert or training program held by an academic union or an educational institution and persevere in their efforts to improve their quality as a music educator. However, there must be some who do not act like that. Thus, efforts has to be made all the time to make themselves improved continuously.
This thesis suggests a next study task as follows on the basis of the operating realities of music academies in towns and villages and systemic suggestions.
There is lack to generalize the results as the objects of questions are limited to all thirty of principals and instructors in towns and villages. Therefore, the objects of questions should include parents, students, and local residents as well as guidance instructors and the number of men questioned needs to be increased to secure generality of the research results.
