The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of the play therapy on the social skills of developmentally disordered children. The subjects were two four year olds (one boy, one girl) with development di-sorders. They were given play therapy for six months; each therapy session took place once a week for forty minutes. The results were that the parent-child earl? interaction model encouraged the reconstitution of mother-child unity, hell)cd the children to reciprocate and interact, and promoted social interaction. The subject developed the ability to express their needs freely and many of their early problems disappeared. The relationships between their mothers, siblings and peers improved and the parent-child relationship was re-newed. Subject A`s self-help in eating and dressing improved; Subject A also began artistic activities. Subject B improved in terms of dressing, eating and general self-help.`B` was also encouraged to play with paper and clothes, to encourage a reduction in autistic characteristics, to promote maternal interaction and sibling and peer interaction. Both subjects were enabled to express their emotions freely and to participate partially in role play and symbolic activities. Free play, language expressiveness and interactional play and direction following also improved.
