텍스트에서 콘텍스트로: 통섭적 문학연구로서 인지적 서사학에 대한 고찰 -토마스 만의 <마의 산> 분석을 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 인지적 서사학을 통해 문학연구에 인지적 전환이 가져온 변화를 추적하고 그 적용가능성을 고찰한다. 이를 위해 먼저 고전 서사학과 대별되는 포스트 고전 서사학의 성립 및 인지적 혁명의 의미를 살펴본다. 고전 서사학이 구조주의적 문학연구로서 텍스트 중심적이라면 포스트 고전 서사학 가운데 가장 첨단의 논의를 전개하는 인지적 서사학은 독서 중의 독자의 인지적 과정을 대상으로 한다는 점에서 수용미학적 입장에서 콘텍스트의 중요성을 부각시킨다. 인지적 전환으로 인해 은 인지적 서사학은 문학연구의 대상으로서 독서의 인지적 과정을 정보처리 방식으로 해명할 수 있다는 입장이다. 인지적 처리과정은 여기서 상향식 처리와 하향식 처리를 순환적으로 연결하는 방식으로 이루어지는 데 이로써 독서의 인지과정에 대한 통합적 모델이 구성된다. 이러한 모델에서 인공지능 연구에서 사용되는 프레임 이론이 적용되는 데 프레임에 의한 정보처리 방식은 기존의 문학연구의 바텀 업 방식과 달리 탑 다운의 방식을 의미한다. 이와 관련하여 독일의 서사학자인 만프레드 얀은 프레임 개념을 통해 고전 서사학적 방법론인 3인칭 서술상황을 설명함으로써 고전 서사학의 재개념화와 더불어 문학에 대한 인지주의 적용의 실례를 보여준다. 프레임이란 독자의 경험 세계로부터 미리 마련된 지식과 정보 처리의 구조라고 할 수 있다. 따라서 독자의 인지과정에 필연적으로 영향을 끼치는 텍스트 외적인 상황적 변수가 고려되어야 한다. 이 같은 변수는 콘텍스트를 구성한다고 할 수 있으며 독자 또한 텍스트에 구성된 독자가 아니라 실재 독자라는 점에서 문화적 역사적 상황과 같은 콘텍스트가 개입된다. 따라서 이 같은 인지적 서사학이 문학연구의 차원을 문화학으로 확장시킨다는 점을 알게된다. 그러나 인지적 서사학의 전개는 독일의 서사이론 및 문예학 전통과 접점을 가진다고 할 수 있다. 이를 세 가지 차원에서 조명할 것이다. 가장 먼저 수용미학의 논의에서 독자의 인지적 독서모델을 구성하는 일이고 두 번쩨로는 실재 독자의 논의를 함축한다는 점이고 마지막으로 문화학으로의 전환이 야기된다.
문화학으로의 확장에서 알수 있듯이 문학연구는 텍스트에 한정된 기존의 문학연구 패러다임을 콘텍스트로 옮겨 놓는다. 결과적으로 인지적 서사학은 통섭 또는 융합의 문학적 가능성을 보여주지만 전통적 문학연구의 성과들을 재개념화하는 방식이라는 점에서 인지적 서사학은 또한 기존 문학연구인 서사학과 연결선상에 놓여 있다.

This work deals with the development of narratology and the new positions of the post-classical Narratologys among which the cognitive narratology is the most advanced developed. While the narratologists in the U.S. made together international and interdisciplinary approach and then successfully contributed to the development of post classical narratology , the new approach of narratology is oddly neglected only in the German lterature study . But since the 1990s, the latest German English studies palys an important role in the international debate on the origin of the post-classical narratology and contribute actively to that.
At the First, this work outlined “the cognitive turn” as a background for the development of cognitive narratologys. The cognitive narratology is influenced by that and assume that the narrative meaning can not be constituted on the structure of the text but by the cognitive process while reading. That means cognitive reconceptualization of classical narratology. Especially the cognitive narratologists apply the cognitive approach on narratology , for example frame theory derived from artificial intelligence study. .
