애니메이션의 변신 플롯에 관한 연구 : <미녀와 야수>, <공주와 개구리>를 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 애니메이션 시나리오 구성에 있어서 변신 플롯의 중요성과 역할에 대해 알아본 연구이다. 이에 따라 변신에 대한 선행연구의 재고찰과 변신 플롯의 극적 구조와 유형들을 이론화하고, 디즈니 애니메이션 <미녀와 야수>, <공주와 개구리>에서 변신 플롯이 어떻게 구조화 되어있는지 심화 분석한다. 21세기는 디지털 사회로 전환되면서 영상산업에 대한 관심과 중요성이 부각되고 있다. 특히 그 중에서도 OSMU(One Source Multi Use) 마케팅에 적합하여 많은 부가가치 창출이 가능한 애니메이션이 해외는 물론 국내에서도 주목받고 있다. 자유로운 표현이 가능한 애니메이션은 표현 영역이 넓고, 과장까지 할 수 있어 상상력을 보다 극대화하여 가상을 현실처럼 구현할 수 있다. 이런 특성에 의해 실재와 가상이 교차되는 이야기와 변신을 서술구조의 주요 요소로 사용한 애니메이션들이 수없이 제작되고 있다. 디지털 기술의 발달로 영화의 기술이 하루가 다르게 발전하고 있지만, 그것보다 더 중요한 것은 창의적인 아이디어와 이야기로 구성된 시나리오이다. 애니메이션 시나리오는 실사 영화와 달리 작품 장르에 따라 표현이나 그 작법을 달리해야 하고 비약과 과장 그리고 애니메이션 요소를 포함하고 있어야 한다. 이에 따라 흥행성과 관객의 몰입 감을 강화시킬 수 있는 애니메이션 시나리오를 창작하기 위해서는 애니메이션의 특성을 부각시키는 변신 플롯의 활용이 필요하다. 본 연구자는 변신 플롯에 주목한다. 왜냐하면 변신과정을 통해 획일화되고 규격화되어 가는 현대사회에서 의사소통의 단절로 소외되고 한계를 절감하는 현대인들의 새로운 자아가 되고 싶은 변신욕구를 충족시키기 때문이다. 또한 감성을 자극하는 서사구조로 관객들의 정서를 최고조로 고양시킬 수 있다. 변신 플롯은 인간의 심리나 내적 변화를 주로 다루는 마음의 플롯으로 변신주체자인 프로타고니스트와 희생자인 안타고 니스트 이 두 주요인물의 갈등으로 인해 이야기가 전개되고 사랑에 의해 변신주체자의 저주가 풀리며 이야기가 해결 된다. 본 논문은 변신 플롯을 기본 구조로 삼고 작품성과 흥행성을 인정받은 디즈니 애니메이션 <미녀와 야수>, <공주와 개구리>의 작품 분석 결과 변신 플롯은 애니메이션 시나리오를 구성할 때 작품성과 흥행성 이 두 가지 요소를 강화시킬 수 있는 서사구조를 가지고 있다는 결과를 도출했다. 이상의 작품들에서 변신 플롯은 우선 인물의 심리와 내면을 주로 다루며 감성을 자극하여 관객들의 몰입 감을 높이고 있다. 또 클라이맥스의 변신장면에 의해 관객들의 정서를 최고조로 고양시키며 극적 즐거움을 극대화시킨다. 마지막으로 외모와 마음을 변화시키는 사랑의 위대함을 다루고 있다고 볼 수 있다. 본 연구는 변신 플롯의 적극적인 활용이 애니메이션의 흥행성을 높이고 관객의 몰입 감을 강화시킬 수 있는 가능성과 플롯의 체계적인 분석에 도움이 될 이론적 배경을 제시한 것에 의의를 두고 있다. 본 연구결과를 토대로 앞으로 변신 플롯 애니메이션의 활발한 제작이 이루어지길 기대한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This thesis is about analyses the importance of transformation plot and its roles. So, there are review on precedents and theory of dramatical structures and styles in transformation plot, and how to structuralize transformation plot in <The beauty and the beast> and <The princess and the frog>. As it is changing into the digital society in 21st century, visual entertainment is on the rise. Most of all, animations, which is proper to OSMU(One Source Multi Use) Marketing have received wide attention internationally as well as domestically because of a higher value added business. Animations, which are able to express freely, have wide forms of expression, and abilities to even exaggerate to realize fiction as reality by maximizing imagination. Like this, there are lots of animations which have mingled fiction and reality or have main structural narrative, transformation plot. Nowadays, the technology of cinema has been getting better by developing the technology of digital, above all things, it's needed to prepare scenario with creative ideas and stories. Animation scenario differs from actual image movie. So, it's supposed to be different ways to express or produce according to genres, and involve leaps of logic, exaggeration and facts of animation. It's inevitable to applicate transformation plot to create animation scenario which can get highly box office records and attraction to audiences. This study is focusing on transformation plot, because it may be a chance to make contemporary men meet another egos through transformation. They feel senses of alienation and limitation owing to communications gap in this society, which is unified and standardized. This makes audiences' sensibility reach their climax owing to narration structure, which can stimulate feelings. Transformation plot treats human mentality and its internal change. Therefore, two main characters : the protagonist who transform independently and the antagonist who is a victim, conflict each other and stories are developed, and then transformed character is released from curse by the power of love, finally it is solved to finish. This thesis has studied on <The beauty and the beast> and <The princess and the frog>, which are appreciated cinematical quality and money making works in Disney animations. It shows that transformation plot has narration structures to reinforce two factors both cinematical quality and money making works. With these, transformation plot treats human mentality and its internal change, so stimulate feelings of audiences to absorb deeper. Also, It has audiences' sensibility reach their climax while they're watching at the scene of transformation. At last, it shows the great power of love which can change appearance and mentality. The significance of this thesis is a proposal of theoric background which can helps vitalizing use of transformation plot get a higher box office record, audiences absorb deeper and plots analysed systematically. I hope that there will be more transformation plot animations to be appeared on the basis of this thesis.
