의식에 대한 과학적 고찰: 뇌과학을 중심으로 = Scientific Investigation of Consciousness: Focusing Mainly on Neuroscientific Approach

Recently, neuroscientific approach to human consciousness turns out to be possible. The function of the consciousness takes a role to connect inner world of inner environment of body with outer world. That is, the consciousness mediates relation between the request of physical inner environment needing for life maintenance and surrounding environment which is constantly changing. Traditionally, It is assumed that cerebral cortex is the brain regions which are participated in consciousness process. But, brain stem and limbic system are taking important role in consciousness process, recently. Also, prefrontal cortex which takes a role of integral problem-solving is important among cerebral region. To understand consciousness as a whole, the hierarchical structure including from unconsciousness to meta-self awareness is suggested. The neuroscientific approach to consciousness can achieve a physical base for understanding human mentality.
