    This study has contemplated the evolving and developing process of Post-Modern Dance to think over the influences of Cunningham's choreogaphy on Post-Modern Dance and has discussed mainly about ter dance form backgrounds, technical characteristics, choreogaphic method and so on of Merce Cunningham named a beginning of this theory. Post-Modern Dance beginning with judson group denied the traditional contents and forms of the existing modern dance and came to search for a new form that could overcome the limits of existing modern dance. The choreogaphers in Judson group has built up the basic of Post-Modern Dance with the spirits of endless experiments and challenging attitudes to answer to the basical question being in dance.
    The Cunningham in 1950s and Judson group in 1960s stood for Post-Modern Dance and Union group continued in 1970s. Cunningham and these groups having another choreogaphic viewpoints developed their choreogaphic through extemporary decision which is not allowing the presupposition. These choreogaphers in the line of Post-Modern Dance built up their own region of how to express their inner world or how to use the new languages and the media. With these, they solved the preposition of dance as an art at the same time, and they could make it the form with experimenting the value of an art.
    Expecially Cunningham called an symbolic person in Post-Modern Dance has exploited his own dance advancing mixed media with innovative artists like Cage with the experiences in Black Mountin University from 1948 to 1952.
    Doing these Cunningham searched for independently the origin of dance using 'Chance' and 'Synchronism', these are his own distinctive choreogaphic styles and could a new art trend with the mixture with other forms of art. These Cunningham's thoughts have been kept in late modern dance in 1960s which was continued in Avant-grade dance.
    To conclude, Cunningham, who has been a frontier of Avant-garde in 1950s, thought the origin concept of dance as an experimental spirit. That pursued a pure action and escaped from a traditional modern dance. This spirit not only takes on opening ground but also freed dance itself from much time-space restriction which has been pointed out as the limit of dance. And it presented a new possibility about the types of body use.
    At last, this trend was become the basic concept if opening and non-formal Post-Modern Dance, therefore we can suppose that this will be definetly as an inspiration to renovate our society in the future. So, Cunningham's choreogaphic methods effected enormously Post-Modern Dance and it will do so to dance after Post-Modern Dance.
