Recentry there have been various studies on the development of several cast iron for the production of the high quality, especially strength and thermal resistance etc., mechanical properties of grey cast iron and spheroidal graphite cast iron.
The study on the effects on the addition of a small amount of Al to grey cast iron on the mechanical properties and solidification structure leads to the following conclusions.
1) The graphitic structure with the increase in Al content changed from D-type or E-type to B and C-type.
2) Hardness rapidly decreased as matrix structure changed to ferrite with more than 2%(wt%) of Al content.
3) Tensile strength marked the maximum (over 41kg!mm2) when Al content reached about 0.72%
4) The strength and angle of torsion increased with the increase in Al content and they marked the maximum value when Al content come up to 1.5%.
5) Both tensile test and torsion turned out to be equal in mode of fracture surface. strength could be measured by the mode of fracture surface.
